Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half during an unintentional coming together with fellow Nugget Jones.

His teammate stepped on the foot of the big man, who immediately fell to the ground clutching his knee.

The 30-year-old, that leads the league season in rebounds and dimes, posted 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to incurring the problem.

He will undergo an MRI on the following day to assess the seriousness of the issue.

"Right away, he knew something was wrong," said Denver head coach Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Any player that gets hurt, that's difficult, particularly somebody as talented as him. More information will come tomorrow."

"We will continue together. Of course, right now, I am focused about Jokic as a person and the frustration of facing an event like that."
