The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
During an event for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his viewpoint on the UK education system, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this negative culture.”
In response to these assertions, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments suggested the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years led to significant interruptions in schools and millions of days of lost learning for students.
During the American gathering, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
