Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

The president stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”

Attendees gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to assist public safety in DC.

Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The airman, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
