The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG

The intense world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A partnership has been formed to create a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic setting. The project has been announced, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in the spring of 2026.

"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and iconic world-building to the table, providing fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," states an official release.

Launch products are set to feature a starter set, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and several deluxe editions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was released in New York City, sending the nation into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, society crumbles and hostile groups rise, turning the city into a warzone. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. This is where the agents come in.

Development on the game has been underway for about three years, and it is reportedly finished. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a broader audience, particularly in the United States. Manufacturing is slated to begin right after the fundraiser, with shipping expected for later in 2026.

A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System

A preview at the system reveals it uses d10s exclusively through its new GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and strategic approach. Agents leverage skills or traits to roll small dice pools, usually between one and five d10s.

  • Instead of adding results together, participants select a single “resolution die” from the group.
  • This dice is then measured against a target difficulty.
  • Rolling a perfect 10 grants special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Combat Focus On Positioning and Awareness

Battles prioritize placement and situational awareness, reflecting the source material. Elements like taking cover, elevation, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This system is designed to favor teamwork and smart positioning instead of raw numbers.

A Thematic Wound Mechanic

The way health is managed adds a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their capabilities by lowering the number of d10s.

  1. At zero health, an operative collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
  2. They may still move and take limited actions, simulating the "downed" state seen in many shooter games.
  3. Any player in this state must roll on a injury chart, risking persistent effects like shock or crippling injuries.

A Ready-to-Play Adventure

A free introductory rulebook will be released soon. It includes a ready-to-play introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, the group spearhead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an assault by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be detailed closer to the Kickstarter start date.
