That Grisly Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Stays With Audiences
Out of every adult-oriented animated films I have personally watched, no other has stuck with me quite like the fear-filled ending of the viscerally violent as well as highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director developed a grim, melancholy , often savage universe that included some tiny , desolate hints of hope.
While The Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from a drive to advance animation further, the filmmaker explained that it was rather an attempt to convey a global, multicultural theme regarding “the common origin of each battle.”
That idea is expressed via a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly modeled after a well-known line of lovable characters.
Being raised in a community focused on warmongering as well as the defense industry, many of the bears are obsessed with killing unicorns, because of a holy book which states the bears they were once rulers of the woodland, until these creatures expelled them.
Others have not completely accepted the propaganda, , would rather sample drugs or mate outdoors.
In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these vivid animals display sexual organs , clear libidos.
For one especially vicious, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the conflict against unicorns becomes a route to power — and specifically to supremacy over his softer, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
Bluey behaves aggressively , an apparent sociopath , and while terror dominates his squad and kills his fellow soldiers individually, he seizes increasingly control for himself, in increasingly violent, damaging approaches.
At the same time, these mythical beings are enduring their own horror, as an expanding, destructive monster in their forest.
“Initially, it feels like a comedy,” the filmmaker said. “But then it evolves into a more dramatic and melancholic movie. And in the finale, it transforms into a scary feature.”
Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the most whimsical films by a renowned filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing cartoon characters swear, fire weapons, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it becomes something more like a darker work from that artist, including ever more visual gore , a tangible link to the actual suffering of conflict.
By the end, it is a complete extreme drama massacre.
The terror that turns this a Halloween-friendly viewing begins a lot earlier than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who wish to see something they have not seen on-screen before, and can endure a narrative that pulls unflinching brutality.
Watch it in a dark room without any distractions, and the conclusion will dig under your skin and take up residence there.
