Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with results so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
