Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for the touring side as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field on the second morning in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring after the final ball in his spell at the MCG.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the series in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat among just a trio of England players who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of the fifth over, he sent down a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
