Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Manager Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side only seven months after starting disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a contract joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds finished amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting offensive songs about Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England international is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull his beloved club out of the bottom places.
Previous History Between the Striker & Wilder
Both men had history before Leeds moved up to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All appears has been resolved with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds last season however the ex- Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
