Over 36,000 Sudanese people have evacuated since fall of El Fasher to RSF, reports UN agency
More than 36,000 individuals have evacuated from Sudan's Kordofan area east of Darfur since Saturday, according to the UN's migration agency.
The important central zone separating the country's Darfur provinces and the Khartoum-Riverine region has over recent weeks become the latest battleground in the two-year civil war between the Sudanese military forces and the paramilitary forces.
Massive Evacuation Statistics
An calculated 36,825 people evacuated from five districts in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, per data from the International Organization for Migration.
The civilians, most on foot, headed to Tawila, a town west of El Fasher that is currently sheltering in excess of 652,000 evacuated individuals.
Escalated Forces Deployment
Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday reported a significant increase in both RSF and army concentration across communities throughout the state.
Both military groups are vying for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan provincial capital and a critical supply and command center that connects Darfur to Khartoum.
"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," stated an RSF member in a recently circulated video declaration.
Area Inhabitants Detail Security Concerns
A resident of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, reported that the amount of RSF vehicles had increased considerably since the group's takeover of El Fasher.
"We ceased visiting our farms, concerned about clashes," the local commented.
Another civilian, who asked to remain unnamed for security reasons, also indicated that "there has been a big increase in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the past two weeks.
Global Alarms and Calls
A senior UN official sounded warnings last week about "extensive crimes" and "race-driven revenge attacks" by RSF in Bara.
The official warned of patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF militants have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against non-Arab ethnic groups.
The spiritual head on Sunday called for an quick cessation of hostilities and the opening of humanitarian corridors in Sudan, declaring that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are causing unacceptable suffering."
Sudan's ambassador to Egypt on Sunday alleged RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and declared that the Sudanese government would not discuss with the paramilitary group.
The diplomat further encouraged the international community to designate the group as a terrorist organisation.
