Audiences are thrilled for the chilling show It: Welcome to Derry, which is receiving positive feedback and drawing from elements from additional King stories. Just one day after launch, the broadcaster declared that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for October 31st.

Early Release Details

Beginning on Halloween night at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, the next part of the Derry prequel will premiere on HBO's online platform, ahead of its linear broadcast. Future chapters of the eight-episode season will be released on Sundays on both HBO and its streaming arm, culminating in the concluding chapter on December 14th.

Storyline Summary

Set in Stephen King’s It universe, It: Welcome to Derry draws from the original story while building upon the universe realized by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. It Chapter One highlighted young characters confronting supernatural evils, so it’s fitting that the prequel continues that tradition. Nevertheless, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry demonstrates it intended to escalate the fear, offering more frightening moments than the movies and establishing a dark atmosphere for what's to come.

Located in the early '60s, this show presents a fresh cast of adults and children residing in a seemingly idyllic town hiding a sinister core. This place functions through a vicious, repeating pattern—defined by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a terrifying being resurfaces each 27-year cycle. While the series might sound like it leans too heavily to the films initially, what sets apart the digital program is its dual perspective—told from the eyes of both children and adults simultaneously. The kids are especially susceptible to the monster's horror, but older characters also face facing their own nightmares born from the town's ingrained prejudice and hidden paranormal elements.
