The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the United States on five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe including the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted figures that were at the heart of campaigns to enact legislation regulating US-based technology firms.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
