It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are all that remain for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

That it took as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to create her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fail again.

If this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting final game tension. Different voices suggest with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared I lacked timing at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive instincts activate and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there the right-hander was in motion.

"An opportunity to take the field and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 more at one run per ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the assurance to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if we do, we know we can succeed."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this World Cup need to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this triumph coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have postponed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is anticipated as her concluding event as leader in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as skipper.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her final mountain.
